SBIRS GEO Flight 3 Arrives in Florida, Prepares for October Launch

CAPE CANAVERAL AIR FORCE STATION, Fla — The U.S. Air Force’s Space Based Infrared Systems program completed a major program milestone on Aug. 2, successfully delivering a Geosynchronous Earth Orbit satellite Flight 3 to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.

Robinson was briefed on the mission and challenges on the U.S. border. She also toured the U.S. southern border via helicopter. NORTHCOM is a mission partner with the CBP. Joint Task Force – West (JTF-W) is part of the Department of Homeland Security's Southern Border and Approaches Campaign Plan. This joint task force structure focuses cross-departmental and integrated counter-network operations on strategic objectives across four geographical corridors. Area networks within the JTF-W Joint Operating Area include supporting components, Department of Defense Commands, International, State, Local, and Tribal entities. JTF-W efforts are designed to extend the border and institutionalize an asymmetric operational agility, effectiveness, and impact against targeted Transnational Criminal Organization (TCO) networks.

Southern Border Visit

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Air Force Gen. Lori J. Robinson, commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command, travelled the Southern U.S. Border visiting NORTHCOM mission partners and units July 19-21, 2016. She received mission briefs and aerial tours in Texas and Arizona.

WASHINGTON — Representatives of the United States, South Korea and Japan conducted a senior-level videoconference to share information regarding two recent North Korean missile launches.

Maj. Gen. Wayne W. Grigsby Jr., commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, provides an overview of 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Inf. Div., capabilities to the Fifth Army Inter-American Relations Program delegation July 21 at Fort Riley. “FIARP is an annual Headquarters, Department of the Army-funded weeklong program established after World War II. The goal of the program is to enhance Army-to-army relations, increase interoperability and exchange ideas.

Inter-American relations program benefit Mexico, U.S. militaries

Lt. Gen. Perry L. Wiggins, commanding general of U.S. Army North and Fifth Army, hosted a U.S. Military and Secretaria de la Defensa Nacional delegation in Kansas City, Kansas, as part of the 70th Fifth Army Inter-American Relations Program July 18 to 22. The visit included a stop at Fort Riley to meet with 1st Infantry Division Soldiers.

EOC Director Course comes to Buckley

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Buckley Air Force Base is hosting the Emergency Operations Center Director Course from August 2-5. Individuals attending the course are stationed at various locations throughout the Air Force, ranging from civilian to colonel.

Reserve Airmen Stand Ready to Help Fight Wildfires

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Air Force Lt. Col. Luke Thompson describes being at the controls of an aircraft carrying the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System, or MAFFS, during a firefighting operation.

Soldiers with the 2nd Infantry Division rest on military cots during their deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in June 2010. DLA Troop Support's Construction and Equipment supply chain provides military cots for warfighters and for disaster relief operations, and sent 400 to Alaska for use during a training exercise this summer.

PHILADELPHIA — Unshouldering a heavy pack and stretching onto a military cot can be a small but welcome comfort for warfighters after traveling by air for hours. Hundreds of soldiers had that modest amenity available to them as they arrived for the Arctic Anvil exercise in Alaska this summer, thanks to Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support.
