U.S. Northern Command Establishes JTF-Gold

U.S. Northern Command established Joint Task Force-Gold (JTF-Gold), led by Lt. Gen. Sean Gainey who is dual-hatted as the commanding general of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC). This new command enhances the integration and synchronization of the homeland’s integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) enterprise. JTF-Gold will be co-located with the USASMDC at Peterson Space Force Base.

USS St. Louis (LCS 19) Returns from Deployment in Support of Southern Border Operations

The Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS St. Louis (LCS 19), operating under U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) in the Gulf of America, returned to Naval Station Mayport after completing a surge deployment on November 10, 2025.

USNORTHCOM's counter-small UAS fly-away kit attains operational certification

An 11-person team from U.S. Northern Command deployed here Oct. 21-27, 2025, to provide counter-small unmanned aerial system support to the 5th Bomb Wing and installation commander, successfully engaging more than 100 targets of interest across several days and attaining certification as an operational team.

SOCNORTH strengthens Homeland Defense throughout Alaska during Arctic Edge 25

Special Operations Command North successfully wrapped up Arctic Edge 25 (AE25), a NORAD and U.S. Northern Command–led homeland defense exercise spanning Alaska from Aug. 1–31, 2025. AE25 showcased integration of multi-domain capabilities, innovative logistics, and joint interoperability throughout one of the world’s most challenging environments.

SOCNORTH International partners observe experimental resupply test during Arctic Edge 25

The roar of aircraft engines echoed across Alaska’s interior skies as an unusual payload dropped from the back of a plane during exercise Arctic Edge 25. Instead of a simple parachute bundle drifting to the ground, the device kicked into motion and steered itself toward a precise landing zone. For U.S. Special Operations Command North, the experimental resupply system represents more than new technology. It demonstrates how the military can sustain operations in some of the world’s harshest environments even when global positioning systems are denied or disrupted.

UPDATE: 302d AW Aerial Firefighting Aircraft Repositioned to Idaho, Stats for Colorado, Wyoming

One aircraft from the Air Force Reserve’s 302d Airlift Wing repositioned to Idaho Aug. 25 to continue support for western wildfires. The wing has been providing aerial firefighting support in Colorado and Wyoming since August 9.
