According to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Hurricane Matthew is centered about 30 nautical miles south of Tiburon, Haiti, and about 78 nautical miles south of the eastern tip of Cuba, moving north at more than 10 miles an hour. The storm’s maximum sustained winds have been measured at 145 miles an hour, NOAA says. The eye of Hurricane Matthew is expected to hit far-eastern Cuba later Oct. 4, NHC forecasters say, and hurricane models show the hurricane moving along or just off the east coast of Florida and further north along the coast, NOAA says, possibly as far as Massachusetts by Sunday morning, Oct. 9. East Coast Military Bases Prepare for Hurricane Matthew

WASHINGTON — Hurricane Matthew is "a serious storm and … we do stand ready to provide support in the region as needed,” Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told reporters during a Pentagon briefing.

September 19, 2016 — Army Lt. Gen. Daniel Hokanson was confirmed Thursday as the vice chief of the National Guard Bureau by the U.S. Senate.

Active Shooter Exercise

WWII Pilots are touched by warm welcome in their honor

September 8, 2016 — A group of WWII veterans and their families were pleasantly surprised and touched to receive such an enthusiastic and warm welcome from the men and women of NORAD and USNORTHCOM during their visit to the Commands on Thursday.

Southwest Border Region Visit

Alaska Army National Guard supports community with multi-agency exercise

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska — The 103rd Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team, composed of Alaska Army National Guard Soldiers and Alaska Air National Guard Airmen, hosted an exercise in Fairbanks, Alaska, Aug. 23 for different agencies in the area including Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Wainwright. The exercise provided an opportunity for different agencies to train together on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Environmental agents.

Dobbins combats Zika with Georgia Department of Health

Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga. — Dobbins’ Bioenvironmental Engineers recently partnered with the Georgia Department of Public Health to partake in the Department of Defense initiative to combat the Zika virus and other mosquito-spread diseases.

Air Force and Civilian EOD train together to save lives

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.- — The 21st Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal shop hosted the 140th Wing CES EOD out of Buckley Air Force Base, Colo., the 302nd Airlift Wing CES EOD at Peterson AFB, Colo., and the El Paso County bomb squad for an advanced maintenance course held here August 15-19.
