Joint Task Force – Southern Border Conducts Transfer of Authority from 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) to 1st Armored Division

The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) transferred authority of the Joint Task Force – Southern Border (JTF-SB) mission today to the 1st Armored Division in a transfer of authority (TOA) ceremony held at Fort Huachuca. Gen. Gregory M. Guillot, commander of U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), presided over the ceremony.

NAVAL STATION MAYPORT, Fla. (May 11, 2026) – The Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Cooperstown (LCS 23) departs Naval Station Mayport to begin operations in support of its scheduled deployment. Cooperstown assumed duties previously executed by the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Wichita (LCS 13) in support of USNORTHCOM’s border security objectives. Cooperstown is the first ship to bear the name, and honors 70 military veterans who are members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame located in Cooperstown, New York. U.S. Northern Command Establishes JTF-Gold

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. — U.S. Northern Command established Joint Task Force-Gold (JTF-Gold), led by Lt. Gen. Sean Gainey who is dual-hatted as the commanding general of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC). This new command enhances the integration and synchronization of the homeland’s integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) enterprise. JTF-Gold will be co-located with the USASMDC at Peterson Space Force Base.
