FAIRBANKS, ALASKA - Firemen from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Fire Department carry a simulated accident victim to a triage station May 8 as part of Alaska Shield/Northern Edge 2007. The exercises, which are scheduled to run from May 7-18, will test military and civilian authorities throughout Alaska on all aspects of emergency preparedness as they respond to a variety of scenarios ranging from natural disasters to major accidents. On May 8, the University Fire Department, along with other local rescue workers, responded to a simulated train collision involving hazardous materials and massive casualties.

U.S. Northern Command Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Paul Sullivan accepted a resolution passed by the Board of Commissioners of El Paso County proclaiming Oct. 1st as "U.S. Northern Command Day" in a ceremony held at the county offices Sept. 27.

The lighted service structures on Launch Pad 39A cast Space Shuttle Endeavour in shadow after its arrival on Launch Pad 39A after rolling out of the Vehicle Assembly Building. First motion was at 8:10 p.m. July 10 and the shuttle was hard down on the pad at 3:02 a.m. July 11. Endeavour is scheduled to launch on mission STS-118 on Aug. 7. During the mission, Endeavour will carry into orbit the S5 truss, SPACEHAB module and external stowage platform 3.

A bicycle team composed primarily of Canadian Forces and American personnel assigned to the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command rode 422 miles through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado’s annual Ride the Rockies bike ride in June 2007. The Canadians also raised $4,400 (Canadian) in donations for the "Soldier On" fund supporting injured Canadian military members.
