American and Canadian personnel monitor activity in the North American maritime and air domains in the new North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command command center. NORAD and USNORTHCOM unveiled their new integrated command center in a May 13 ceremony at the commands’ headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.

Gen. Gene Renuart, center, commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, and Kirk Brown, NORAD and USNORTHCOM Combined Federal Campaign chairperson, accept the CFC Regional Excellence Award from Pikes Peak CFC Regional Director Barbara Fitz during a ceremony at command headquarters Jan. 7, 2008. The commands earned the award by increasing their percentage of participants more than any other agency in the region's 2007 Combined Federal Campaign. The commands also raised five thousand dollars more than their goal of $203,000. Directorates in the commands received 14 gold, one silver and one bronze award for their CFC donations, and Brown and Air Force Capt. Mark Walker both received CFC Hero Awards. Brown also was designated as the CFC Regional Civilian Hero and is now eligible for national recognition. During the same time period as CFC, Canadian servicemembers in NORAD raised $21,000 for the Canadian National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign.

USNORTHCOM conducts the four-day course twice each year for Army and Air National Guard senior officers who have been nominated by their state adjutants general as potential joint task force commanders. The course presents attendees with a compilation of current policy, directives, guidance and lessons learned regarding the command of a joint task force in the United States and prepares the officers to effectively operate in situations requiring the mobilization of National Guard and active-duty forces.

A Navy MH-60S "Seahawk" from the "High Rollers" of Helictoper Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 85 drops water from a 420-gallon capacity Bambi bucket Tuesday in coordination with civillian fire fighters. 

HSC-85 flew two MH-60S each specially equipped with a Bambi bucket.
