The Navy's Global Hawk Maritime Demonstrator takes off from Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md., Sept. 13, 2008, for a 24-hour flight in support of a wide area damage assessment mission following Hurricane Ike's landfall. The unmanned vehicle flew over the area, providing imagery of the destruction caused by the hurricane in support of federal, state and local responders to post-landfall recovery operations. U.S. Northern Command continues to support federal, state and local Hurricane Ike response efforts in Texas.

Personnel from NORAD and USNORTHCOM visit the first ever Combined Federal Campaign Rally and Charity Agency Fair Oct. 7 at the commands' headquarters. The 2008 CFC campaign "is not about money, not about goals," said NORAD and USNORTHCOM Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. John H. Bordelon. "It's about helping people in need." Representatives from more than 20 CFC charities were present, sharing their charities with the men and women of the commands.

The "J6 Cyber Range Riders" wild cow milking team from North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command finished second in preliminary competition at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs, Colo., on July 11, 2008. Team members are: Army Sgt. Maj. Archie Ramos (milking cow), Navy Chief Petty Officer Shawn Wise (sitting), Senior Master Sgt. Pete Palmer (standing) and Army Col. Michael Curry (kneeling). The team placed second in the rodeo finals the next day. The rodeo is a charitable organization dedicated to funding programs and services that benefit local military personnel and their families.
