U.S. NORTHERN COMMAND PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO MEXICO

NORAD and USNORTHCOM Public Affairs

PETERSON AFB, Colo.  –   U.S. Northern Command is fully engaged with the Mexican government and the U.S. Agency for International Development providing assistance to Mexico City.

USAID deployed a Disaster Assistance Response Team and an Urban Search and Rescue Team to assist with recovery efforts. The USAR team consists of 67 urban search and rescue specialists and five K-9’s.

On Wednesday night, a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster airlifted the USAR specialists from the Los Angeles County Fire Department to Mexico City to assist with search and rescue efforts.
Today, a U
.S. Air Force C-17 took supplies provided by the Defense Logistics Agency, consisting of 60 pallets of food and water from Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego. These supplies included more than 58,000 bottles of water, 5000 lbs of rice, nearly 450 cases of milk, and other commodities.

Additionally, a U.S. Air Force C-17 from Travis Air Force Base, Calif., delivered humanitarian aid to Mexico City by airlifting over 31,000 pounds of hygiene and medical supplies.
