When fired, the MAFFS II system releases 3,000 gallons (27,000 pounds) of water or retardant in five seconds with a force equal to that of one of the C-130’s four engines. The 302nd Airlift Wing is the only Air Force Reserve wing that supports aerial firefighting and one of only four Air Force units that support the MAFFS mission.
