Strategic partnerships with NORAD and USNORTHCOM provide private industry with robust advocacy across the Department of War (DoW), the Armed Forces, and interagency organizations, while directly linking commercial capabilities to current and emerging operational requirements. These collaborations streamline project development by emphasizing operational relevance and championing critical technologies, so mission-focused initiatives gain the visibility, support, and rapid transition pathways needed to reach operational use, positioning industry as an essential stakeholder in homeland defense and national security innovation, rather than merely a customer.

WHAT WE DO

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) safeguard and defend the United States and Canada from the emerging global security challenges threatening our nations, forces, and way of life.

The NORAD Mission: Conduct aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning in the defense of North America.

The USNORTHCOM Mission: Defend our homeland – deter, detect, deny, and defeat threats to the United States; conduct security cooperation activities with allies and partners; and support civil authorities.

Our vision is to outpace global competitors, deter adversaries, and deny and defeat threats through all-domain awareness, information dominance, decision superiority, and global integration.

WHO WE ARE

The NORAD and USNORTHCOM Requirements Analysis and Resources Directorate (J8) advocates for capabilities and funding in support of the Commands’ mission requirements.

The NORAD and USNORTHCOM J84 Warfighter Innovation & Integration Division is an innovative team pursuing technological solutions that further develop and sustain the homeland defense, defense support of civil authorities, and theater security cooperation missions of the Commands.  The Division provides expertise and leadership, promotes innovation and continuous learning, drives technological development and experimentation, and fosters strategic partnerships to deliver solutions that meet priority NORAD and USNORTHCOM capability gaps.  Recognizing the U.S. commercial sector is driving technological advancements that provide our Nation, allies, and partners a distinct advantage over our competitors, we seek to leverage commercial capabilities to gain and maintain technological advances over our competitors.

The J84 Vendor Engagements Team serves as the central point of contact for commercial industry to learn about NORAD and USNORTHCOM priorities.  They coordinate engagements between industry partners and Command leadership and conduct outreach to foster collaboration.
