Libby Army Airfield, Ariz. – Joint Task Force-Southern Border conducted a transfer of authority from the 10th Mountain Division Headquarters to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Headquarters, at Libby Army Airfield, Arizona, Oct. 10, 2025.

The 10th Mountain Division Headquarters, commanded by Maj. Gen Scott M. Naumann, assumed the role of synchronizer of several USNORTHCOM activities and military forces for southern border efforts on March 14, 2025.

Gen. Gregory M. Guillot, Commander, U.S. Northern Command, presided over the ceremony.

Since its establishment, JTF-SB reorganized its military structure to better align with the nine U.S. Border Patrol sectors across the United States 1,954-mile southern border, each fully integrated with Border Patrol counterparts from the regional to team level.

“JTF-Southern Border did exceptional work employing joint, all-domain capabilities across the 1954-mile southern border.  They implemented new tactics and innovative operations while partnering with the US Border Patrol to achieve unprecedented operational control.  The effect?  Nothing but a record of stunning mission success,” said Guillot.

Over the past five months, JTF-SB expanded operations into four National Defense Areas spanning Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Within the El Paso sector alone, the task force has marked 2,153 signs across 240 miles of some of the most rugged and remote border terrain in the United States.

JTF-SB brought together advanced military capabilities - such as command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and intelligence-driven maneuver forces - to support U.S. Border Patrol in executing all-domain operations across the entire border region. The task force also maintains strong collaboration with the Mexican military and U.S. government agencies to ensure seamless information sharing and coordinated responses.

The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Headquarters, commanded by Maj. Gen. David W. Gardner, has completed pre-deployment site surveys and Transition of Authority academics, and are fully ready to lead Joint Task Force-Southern Border.
