US Army North Public Affairs

FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas  –

The Aguiluchos Stadium will serve as the location of a unique show of cooperation between the militaries of the United States and Mexico.  United States Military Academy Soccer and Sprint Football Teams “Black Knights” will face off in an exhibition Soccer game on Dec 1, 2017 from 12-2pm and an American style football game on Dec 1, 2017 from 5-7pm local time in Mexico City with Mexico's Military Academy Soccer and Football teams “Los Aguiluchos”, Heroico Colegio Militar (HCM).

“Events like this build a sense of esprit de corps between comrades and also form the basis for stronger personal and professional relationships with future military leaders as defense partners,” said Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan Commanders U.S. Army North.

"The US Mexico Future Leader Exchange is an incredible leader development opportunity.  The Cadets and coaches from each Academy are able to interact, share experiences, and gain a better understanding for each other's culture.  This is crucial for our Cadet's development, future relationships, and the understanding of our partner's environment.  We greatly appreciate the opportunity to participate in this tremendous event," said Brig. Gen. Steve Gilland U.S. Military Academy Commandant of Cadets.

Sprint Football is a type of American Football that emphasizes speed and agility over strength by imposing a 172 pound weight limit.

In addition to facing off on the The Aguiluchos Stadium, the cadets will share meals, a post-game ceremony, and partake in a trip to local cultural landmarks.

The HCM trains officers for service in the Arms Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Armor, and Combat Engineers in the Mexican Army. It is located in Mexico City.
