US Army North, FEMA, others prepare for 2022 Hurricane Season predicted to be “above average”

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — As the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane season approaches, U.S. Army North hosted more than 150 military and civilian partners who gathered in person and virtually for a Hurricane Rehearsal of Concept (ROC) Drill at the Army Medical Department ROC Drill Facility at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, May 25.

U.S. Army North hosted mission partners during the 2020 ARNORTH Hurricane Rehearsal of Concept Drill, held at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston both in-person and virtually, July 9. The event included more than 250 leaders from federal, state, U.S. territories and the military, to discuss their respective courses of action in the event of a hurricane response.

DoD Continues Round-the-Clock Support Following Hurricanes in Caribbean

DoD Assistance Team Arrives in Haiti for Post-Hurricane Support

WASHINGTON — U.S. military assistance is on the ground in Haiti to assist and support the tiny island nation with the impact felt from Hurricane Matthew, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told reporters.

More Guard members activated in South Carolina and Florida as Hurricane Matthew takes aim

As Hurricane Matthew barreled Thursday toward the southeastern United States, about 4,400 National Guard members were on the ground in South Carolina and Florida helping with preparations and plans for recovery.

U.S. Army North Stands Ready in Event of Disasters, Attacks

WASHINGTON — Army Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commander of U.S. Army North, said he agrees with a previous commander’s statement that “if you weren’t paranoid when you came to this command, you certainly will be when you leave.” The command is charged with defending the homeland in the event of a natural disaster or an act of war.

According to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Hurricane Matthew is centered about 30 nautical miles south of Tiburon, Haiti, and about 78 nautical miles south of the eastern tip of Cuba, moving north at more than 10 miles an hour. The storm’s maximum sustained winds have been measured at 145 miles an hour, NOAA says. The eye of Hurricane Matthew is expected to hit far-eastern Cuba later Oct. 4, NHC forecasters say, and hurricane models show the hurricane moving along or just off the east coast of Florida and further north along the coast, NOAA says, possibly as far as Massachusetts by Sunday morning, Oct. 9. Hurricane Hunters to fly low-level investigation mission today

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. — The Air Force Reserve 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron Hurricane Hunters will fly an investigative mission out of St. Croix today into Invest 99-L in the Western Atlantic Ocean. During the mission the WC-130J crew members will fly the aircraft between 500 and 1500 feet above the surface of the ocean to collect data that will help the National Hurricane Center determine whether Invest 99-L has the potential to develop into a tropical system.
