Hurricane Hunters to fly low-level investigation mission today

The Air Force Reserve 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron Hurricane Hunters will fly an investigative mission out of St. Croix today into Invest 99-L in the Western Atlantic Ocean. During the mission the WC-130J crew members will fly the aircraft between 500 and 1500 feet above the surface of the ocean to collect data that will help the National Hurricane Center determine whether Invest 99-L has the potential to develop into a tropical system.
