Naval, air and ground assets from the Defense Department are ready to initiate response operations in Florida and will continue Hurricane Irma response operations throughout the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico region, a DoD spokesman said.

U.S. Army North Stands Ready in Event of Disasters, Attacks

Army Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commander of U.S. Army North, said he agrees with a previous commander’s statement that “if you weren’t paranoid when you came to this command, you certainly will be when you leave.” The command is charged with defending the homeland in the event of a natural disaster or an act of war.
