Gen. Lori J. Robinson, commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) visited Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Bradley A. Becker on Fort Lesley J. McNair, Aug. 10, 2016.
Robinson met with Becker for an office call and received a command and capabilities brief from the Deputy Commander, Egon Hawrylak. JFHQ-NCR/MDW directors and commanders were on hand to answer any questions from Robinson and her staff.
Military District of Washington is designated as a Direct Reporting Unit (DRU) by the Secretary of the Army and reports directly to the Chief of Staff of the Army. The MDW is a geographic command with responsibilities that extend throughout the U.S. National Capitol Region (NCR) – Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region (JFHQ-NCR), based at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. is responsible for land-based homeland defense, defense support of civil authorities (DSCA), and incident management in the National Capital Region. JFHQ-NCR is responsible for protecting the District of Columbia and neighboring counties and cities of Maryland and Virginia, including Loudon, Fairfax and Prince William Counties in Virginia. JFHQ-NCR draws together the existing resources of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and NORAD into a single point headquarters for planning, coordination and execution of the mission in the National Capital Region.
