Mr. James Parlier, retired U.S. Navy command master chief, speaks to one of
his slides during his keynote speech at the annual Spiritual and Emotional
Care in Disasters Summit May 24, 2016, at the Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado
Springs, CO. Parlier was the command master chief assigned to the
guided-missile destroyer U.S.S Cole (DDG-67) on Oct. 12, 2000, when it was
subjected to a terrorist attack while in port in Yemen. His emotional
presentation focused on the terrorist attack that killed 17 Sailors, the
response during and after, and lessons learned. The annual summit is hosted
by the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command
Chaplain Office.
