PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – U.S. Northern Command will host a Media Day, Wednesday, June 24, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., during the Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID) Execution Phase at Peterson Air Force Base. Print and broadcast media are invited to experience simulated real world environments featuring technologies that could potentially save the lives of victims of natural disasters.
CWID is a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff program that investigates the value of new and emerging technologies. Operational warfighters will use realistic scenarios making critical assessments of participating technologies. U.S. Northern Command has 19 of the 44 technologies being assessed in CWID 2009. During CWID demonstrations, participants investigate interagency and coalition interoperability shortfalls.
The demonstration also focuses on interagency information sharing and coalition interoperability, and addresses Homeland Security/Homeland Defense capabilities. USNORTHCOM personnel and its partners will have an opportunity to assess their technologies.
Technologies assessed during CWID operations must either provide a new capability or improve an existing capability. The demonstration is focused on command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) technology. USNORTHCOM uses CWID to target information technologies that address combatant commander capability gaps and warfighter requirements, while assisting with coordination and development of technology transition decisions.
CWID scenario role players and support engineers will interact over a secure, global network, ensuring capabilities are tested by the coalition and interagency partners they are designed to assist.
U.S. Northern Command, established in the wake of the terrorists attacks of 9/11, is responsible for Homeland Defense and Defense Support of Civil Authorities. For more information about U.S. Northern Command please visit www.northcom.mil.
