Statement regarding USNORTHCOM Force Protection posture

By NORAD and USNORTHCOM Public Affairs

U.S. Northern Command is responsible for setting the baseline Force Protection Condition for Department of Defense installations, facilities, and units within the USNORTHCOM area of responsibility (which includes North America). These Force Protection Conditions outline specific actions that each installation must take in relation to protecting its personnel and resources. We view the Ft. Dix situation as an isolated incident and applaud the joint efforts of federal, state and local officials to apprehend those responsible for the alleged plot to attack Ft. Dix personnel.

While installation or facility commanders may increase protection measures at their facilities, they must meet the minimum baseline Force Protection Condition. The specific Force Protection Condition may vary across the area of responsibility and is not linked to the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Advisory System (HSAS) level.

NORTHCOM is always vigilant and prepared to defend the homeland, including U.S. citizens and military personnel.
