PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. –
PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. — Gen. Gregory M. Guillot, Commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), hosted Gen. Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, Secretary of National Defense of Mexico, and Adm. Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Secretary of the Navy of Mexico, for an official visit to the commands’ headquarters, June 23-25.
Guillot routinely speaks to the Mexican Secretaries and they have hosted Guillot in Mexico, but this marked the first time Trevilla and Morales visited NORAD and USNORTHCOM headquarters since being appointed to their respective positions.
During the multi-day visit, Guillot outlined the mission and priorities of NORAD and USNORTHCOM, including the evolving security environment related to shared regional threats. The Mexican leaders presented their own national defense priorities and perspectives, contributing to a robust exchange of ideas and mutual understanding.
“This visit reflects the enduring trust and open communication between our nations’ militaries,” Guillot said. “Mexico is an essential partner in the defense of North America, and engagements like this ensure our efforts are aligned and effective.”
Key topics included security cooperation activities, an update on USNORTHCOM’s Southern Border Mission, and tri-lateral collaboration for security of the World Cup 2026 events that will take place in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The meetings aimed to build on the close coordination between the U.S. and Mexican armed forces—a partnership based on respect for sovereignty and mutual interest in the defense of North America.
"Today, more than ever, the challenges we face demand a joint, coordinated, and adapted response to our current environment," Morales said. "This meeting reaffirms our willingness to continue strengthening the bonds of trust between our Armed Forces, in favor of our people."
The delegation also received briefings at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station and the U.S. Air Force Academy, where they met with the Superintendent and received presentations on how the Academy prepares future military leaders.
"We have a clear message: that our institutions, at the highest level, are willing to combine capabilities, experiences, and efforts in favor of security, stability, and respect for sovereignty,” said Morales.
The visit further reinforced the U.S. and Mexican military-to-military relationship, which continues to expand in both scope and depth as both nations address shared security threats.
“The bonds between USNORTHCOM and our Mexican military partners are strong, resilient, and focused on expanding our combined capability to defend and secure North America,” Guillot said.
