Commander of NORAD and USNORTHCOM testifies before Senate Armed Service Committee

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – The commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command gave a "state of the commands" testimony March 11 in Washington, D.C. to the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Gen. Gene Renuart outlined the missions of both NORAD and USNORTHCOM, and stated in his written testimony, “Every day, the Commands’ Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, National Guardsmen, Reservists and civilians defend the United States and Canada from external threats and aggression–protecting our citizens, national power, and freedom of action. Due to their efforts, North America enjoys continued security and freedom.”

He addressed a number of topics explaining the commands role in intelligence activities, homeland defense, ballistic missile defense, United States and Canadian sovereign airspace defense, maritime domain awareness/warning, and civil support operations.
