April 3, 2003 —
The men and women of United States Northern Command have been invited to attend a salute a Welcome to Colorado Springs social on April 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Penrose House in Colorado Springs.
The Trustees of El Pomar Foundation, the Military Affairs Council of the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Space Foundation and the Quality Community Group, which includes the Economic Development Corp, Pikes Peak Realtors and Home Buildings Assoc. are hosting the event.
Three proclamations welcoming NORTHCOM will be read at the event by representatives of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, and the state of Colorado.
"The relationships we forge will help the command effectively perform its mission to deter, prevent and defeat threats and aggression aimed at our Nation, its territories and interests within our area of responsibility, and when directed by the President or Secretary of Defense, provide military assistance to civil authorities," said Mr. Michael B. Perini, Director of Public Affairs for USNORTHCOM. "This is a special opportunity for the men and women of USNORTHCOM to develop and strengthen partnerships with Colorado Springs civic leaders. We thank the community deeply for this very special tribute."
There are more than 450 USNORTHCOM military members living in the Colorado Springs area.
